January 2013

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and again it did not see anyone resting under a palm tree in the Bahamas sipping on a Pina Colada! Is that not what you are meant to do on holidays!! Instead everyone was scoffing down their turkey and eggnog, loading the horses and heading south to Bega and Cooma Showjumping Shows.
  • However, the brief Christmas we did have was a very enjoyable one. Starting with Shelley enjoying her “work” Christmas party at Mu Mu Grill at Crows Nest, joining her workmates in a Tapas cooking class and getting to eat and drink everything we made. Yummy food, wonderful company, hilarious “Staff awards” and probably a little tooooooo much Sangria made for a great start to the holidays.  I won the “Student Whisperer” award for “managing to find the best in all the students  even when everyone else has written them off” Sort of a mirror of my horse training career…..most of the horses I have produced have been “quirkie” and some quite damaged!!! We had about 16 people for Christmas Eve dinner and welcomed Santa before the troops began stepping back into horse mode.
  • Sam, Emma, Giorga, Bec, Erin, Robin, Ashley, Frances, Jack and Lily headed down and met up with Craig and the Whites down there. John volunteered to be team manager and was assisted by Sam and Emma at the practice fences and for lots of debriefing sessions at the end of the days! All the details are on our website. Susie, Dean, Geoff, Blue and Sherry and Andrew and Kate are all wonderful support and great company.
  • John also took Wattsie’s stallion and James’s young Chesty baby (Fire) for their first “big” show trip. We had Pants stay on from SIEC for some training so there were quite a few horses leaving here. Roy, Adam and I decided to stay home and look after the remaining animals ……………which now included James’s new baby. A beautiful chocolate Labrador called Bundy. James was also heading down for his annual Bega holiday before going onto Cooma to steward for Tim Dreverman at his huge Cooma Showjumping Festival.
  • Everyone had a fabulous time and helped one another. The teamwork is wonderful to see. All horses improved and again it is wonderful for us to see the progression of horse and rider.
    • Bec and Giorga are now contesting all the D grades in the main ring, Anna and Erin are consistently successful in the Amateurs and Craig was placing in the Young riders on his new ride Fi Fi and jumping some lovely rounds on Pants in the 1.15cm classes. He is training some young horses for owners and they are looking much improved each start.
    • Sam did a superb job on Conman – his first real show and he was well behaved and gained some valuable miles in the 90cm and 1.05cms. Andrew has Billy going very nicely and Ashley Catt was a real superstar on her Billy. Ashley’s (and Billy’s) first big travelling away show and they jumped some super rounds in the 90cm and 1.05cm as well as with her little jumping machine Cricket.
    • Robin and Moose were also enjoying being able to spend some time competing and they are becoming more of a team with every start.
    • Jack and Lily enjoyed their first “ big show” and Jack and the legend Trimmer are now zipping around all the 90cms to a regular cheer squad. (Trimmer has his own fan base and set of groupies!!)
    • Emma’s boys all went well with Desi placing in the D grades, Oliver looking very classy in the little classes and Chesty improving with every start, gaining a great 6th in the Bega Cup.  It was wonderful receiving regular updates and will enjoy a video session when they all return. Giorga, Erin, Robin and Craig headed up the mountain to Cooma.
  • James, Sam, Giorga, Erin, Robin and Craig saw the New Year in at Cooma Showjumping Festival and Erin had a great show coming very close to winning the Amateur Series with wins and places in most of the Amateur classes. Sonny did as great job and just began running out of a bit of puff near the end of a big jumping schedule. Giorga was placed on Beau (her beautiful young horse) and Will jumped some great rounds in the 1.10cm classes. Craig also had a great show with Pants (placing), Fi Fi and Roy. James was kept busy with his stewarding and a vast number of horses went through each day. A big congratulations to both the Bega and Cooma committee’s as you certainly know how to run fantastic, enjoyable shows that have become a real “must” on the showjumping calendar.
  • A slight rest for the horses that went to Bega and Cooma before some of the South Coast shows. Fire has now been handed over to Sam and Shelley for his jump training and Sam has been riding him in between coaching Jordy who has been visiting for some training with Sam.
  • James is now busy organising the annual January birthday Races at Rosehill. The next event on the busy social calendar with the bus booked, the fascinators and suits out and the form guide opened!! That holiday in the Bahamas is looking good!!!!!!
